Press Release Unbound

    The press release, along with the high school yearbook quote and the artist statement, ranks as one of the most risible categories in all of writing. I worked for newspapers and let me tell you, most of what came in was corporate drek and worse.  However, In the contemporary art world, there is a growing tradition of putting sharp and innovative prose in that little space. Mitchell Algus Gallery never disappoints. Note the use of ensorcellment, a word I encountered in New York art writing twice in the same week. Halloween coincidence or are we entering a new age of pagan enchantment?
